Sea Glass in Warrnambool NEW
by: Michael Toms

I've been collecting Sea Galss here in Warrnambool. Yes, the area is a place to find some rare sea glass with the coast littered with ship wrecks. Locard Gorge will be my next place of sea glass adventure. Find me on Face Book

Re: Sea Glass
by: Michael Willem

Hi David & Lin,

Well before today I had little idea what sea glass actually was.
My first guess was some kind of natural glass like sand on particular beaches.

We'll after some quick research I now know that sea glass is simply glass that has been tumbled over time in the ocean and washed up on beaches (correct me if I'm wrong).

I didn't realise how many people actually collect sea glass!

Well I'm not at the Great Ocean Road at the moment, so I can't readily check any of the beaches, but I can tell you that over 200 sailing ships have been lost off the Great Ocean Road, (it's one of the highest concentrations of shipwrecks anywhere!) and I understand that shipwrecks can be the original source of some very rare sea glass!

I'll be curiously looking for some next time I'm there!
